Quick Selection Tool You can use the Quick Selection tool to quickly “paint” a selection using an adjustable round brush tip. As you drag, the selection expands outward and automatically finds and follows defined edges in the image. Select the Quick Selection tool .
Refine Edge Tool The Refine Edge tool in Adobe Photoshop is a powerful feature that lets you fine-tune selections, a task particularly helpful when dealing with complex edges.
Quick Selection and Refine Edge Exercise
Directions After watching the video above on using the Quick Selection Brush and Refine Edge please complete the following:
Step 1 Open Photoshop CC
Step 2 The two files you need to open for this exercise can be found here:
File Menu > to Open and from the Look in select the File Menu > Open > G:\Digital Photography\Photoshop Exercises\Exercise Images\Extraction - Refine Edge folder. pen both Dog Retriever.jpg and Park.jpg images.
Step 3 Select the Quick Selection Brush
Step 4 Open the photo of the Retriever Dog
Step 5 Click and drag over the dog using the Quick Selection Brush tool. You will see a moving dotted line as you do this.
Step 6 Hold down the Shift key and then Select Menu > Select and Mask
Step 7 Select Overlay (V) if you don't already have this view selected. Most of the outside are around the dog will be a red color. Then Press the Esc Key on keyboard
Step 8 Increase your brush size to 200
Step 9 Begin painting around the dog keeping the circle of the brush half on the dog and half on the background. See video clip

Step 10 Open the photo called Park.jpg
Step 11 Drag the photo of the dog to the park photo. See the video below on doing this step
Step 12 Have your completed exercise on your monitor and call Mrs. Thomas over to check it and get your points.
